SUMMARY:Webinar on Exosomes and ALS: Therapeutic Tools that Reveal Disease Mechanism and Propagation
DESCRIPTION:Join us via Zoom Webinar for a scientific discussion with Shad Thaxton\, MD PhD of Northwestern University\, Ajay Verma\, MD PhD of Codiak Biosciences\, and Hande Ozdinler\, PhD of the Ozdinler Lab at Northwestern University on Saturday\, July 11\, 10:00 am CDT. \nREGISTER HERE!\nDr. Hande Ozdinler explains\, “Exosomes are nanoscale little vesicles secreted by cells for communication. They are like letters. Each exosome may contain a different message and now currently it is thought that disease propagates via exosomes because they carry the toxic protein from one cell to the other. They also use exosomes for therapy purposes.”

SUMMARY:Webinar on Scientific Developments in ALS: COVID-19 and Beyond
DESCRIPTION:Join us via Zoom Webinar for a scientific discussion led by Dr. Hande Ozdinler of the Ozdinler Lab at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine and Doug McConnell of A Long Swim on Wednesday\, May 6\, 6:00pm CST. \nREGISTER HERE!\nDespite Corona Pandemic\, these are exciting times to be involved in ALS research.  Research continues and collaborations are enhanced. The pace of discovery is accelerating\, and discoveries that will shape the future of ALS treatment strategies are emerging. \nDoug McConnell of A Long Swim\, whose family has been personally affected by this devastating disease will give an overview of A Long Swim and its mission. \nDr. Ozdinler\, our Scientific Director\, and the pioneer of upper motor neuron research\, will give an update about the current development in ALS research and will discuss the path for the future. \n  \nHosts: \n\n\nDr. Hande Ozdinler\, an Associate Professor of Neurology\, at Northwestern University\, Feinberg School of Medicine\, the Director of Ozdinler Lab\, one of the first labs focusing on the biology and pathology of upper motor neurons. Dr. Ozdinler has pioneered research of upper motor neurons as they relate to ALS and many other motor neuron diseases. Dr. Ozdinler is also the Scientific Director of A Long Swim. \nDoug McConnell\, an investment banker and founder of A Long Swim\, a nonprofit that uses open water marathon swimming to raise awareness and funds for ALS research. McConnell has raised over $1\,000\,000 for ALS research by swimming the English Channel\, Circumventing the Island of Manhattan and swimming the Catalina Channel\, earning the honor of open water swimming’s triple crown. \n\n\nREGISTER HERE!\n
